The Annual Whiteface Dartmoor Dinner was held at The Dartmoor Lodge, Ashburton, on 26th October 2022 with over 70 people attending. The evening started with a delicious three course meal, and this was followed by our after-dinner speaker Phillip Butcher, who shared his interesting experiences of working on a sheep station in the Falkland Islands.   

We then moved on to the awards part of the evening when the cups, rosettes and prizes are presented. The results are as follows:

2022 Annual Show and Sale

The Annual Show and Sale took place on Friday 26th August 2022 at Exeter Livestock Centre.

There were 56 rams and 269 ewes entered into the catalogue, demonstrating a positive upturn in numbers. The top price ram went to C E Caunter & Son selling for £1250 guineas. Top price older ewes peaked at £108 guineas for Phil Abel and family and received the Chairman’s Prize of £25 for the highest price ewes.                                    

The actual Show results were as follows:

The Chairman, Roger Hutchings, kindly sponsored the ram classes this year, with Kivells  sponsoring the two crossbred ewe classes, so a big thank you to Roger, Russell and the team.

 

The next General Meeting of the Whiteface Dartmoor Sheep Breeders Association will be held at St Andrews Church Hall, Ashburton, on Thursday 15th September at 7.30pm.

Our own Flock Competition will take place from Friday 30th September – Friday 7th October. The closing date for entries is Friday 23rd September. No late entries will be accepted as the judges will need to plan their routes. The judges this year are: Matt Cole, Penny Shepherd, Roger Hutchings.

A great night was had by all
The annual WFD Dinner was held at the Dartmoor Lodge, Ashburton, on Wednesday 20th October 2021. The guest speaker was Andrew Lane, who brought the evening to light with his wit and knowledge of the agricultural industry. As we celebrated the 70th Year of the Association, a number of articles and pictures were on display around the room for guests to view and enjoy. 
The many cups that had been won throughout the years were presented and results of the Flock Competition were also announced. The results are as follows:

2021 Flock Competition

In early October we will be holding our Flock Competition once again (after cancelling it last year due to the virus). Forms will be sent out with the September Newsletter, and are available here. For those who live more than 35 miles from Widecombe you can enter the flock competition via our photo competition, so do start catching some great photos now in preparation.
